A call to Discipleship goes out

...from Messiah Yeshua to everyone who belongs to Him through faith. A decision to answer His call is a matter of choice for each believer. The Bible teaches that becoming a disciple requires a one-time-only dedication and a continual commitment. To help you better understand the disciple making process, we invite you to study Dr. Fruchtenbaum's teaching entitled "The Spiritual Life and Discipleship." All it costs is a little of your time and your effort.

Jesus instructed His students to be disciple makers. At His ascension, He placed the mantle of responsibility for future disciple-making activity in the world on the shoulders of those He called "friends." Generation after generation, Yeshua's talmidim (disciples) passed on what they learned from their teachers to those who would follow in their footsteps.

Becoming and making disciples is not the result of a program that produces a product. It is the result of relationships built around the centrality of God's Word. By looking at the life of Jesus, four distinct and progressive stages in the disciple-making process can be seen:

  • COME AND SEE (John 1:35-39)
  • FOLLOW ME (Mark 1:17)
  • BE WITH ME (Mark 3:14)
  • ABIDE IN ME (John 15:7-8)

We have adopted this observation as a constructive way to entitle and organize our teaching materials for discipleship training use. At the start of His ministry, Yeshua simply invited His prospective talmidim to "Come and See." He did not assume they knew more than they actually did. He only expected them to observe, listen, and learn. He keenly focused His future world shakers attention on the fundamentals, the first being that there is only one correct interpretation of any passage of Scripture... the one He intended.

Following the Master's example then, we now invite you to "Come and See." We encourage you to embark on an exciting journey of discovery. Along the road, you will experience a more vibrant spiritual life as you grow in your understanding of Yeshua's Word from a Jewish perspective. You will learn how to more effectively communicate Scriptural truth and God's profound message "to the Jew first, and also to the Greek."

Fifty of Dr. Fruchtenbaum's classic Messianic Bible Studies in both PDF written format and MP3 audio format have been carefully selected for this stage of your discipleship training. ALL FIFTY studies are available 24/7/365... ABSOLUTELY FREE on the Discipleship Training Schedule page.

Our prayer is that many of you will make the decision to become a biblical disciple maker using these materials. Some will decide to go on to the "Follow Me" stage and become an active "fisher of men." Before moving forward we ask you to first complete the "Come and See" stage. In fulfilling our purpose, Ariel Ministries is committed to providing resources that will help you mature in your faith, grow into His likeness, and embolden you to invite others to join you in the process.

Course Description

This introductory course is designed to provide students of the Bible with a broad based overview of critical theological subjects. Studied systematically (in proper order) each lesson builds upon the previous concepts to lay a biblical foundation essential to the spiritual growth and maturity of the believer in Messiah Jesus. A desired result of this systematic study is an increasing ability of the disciple (talmid) to both demonstrate with their lives and give witness through their words the truth of the transforming power of The Living Word of God.

INSTRUCTOR:

Dr. Arnold Fruchtenbaum

REQUIRED LECTURES:

The student is expected to sufficiently master the content of all fifty of the carefully selected Messianic Bible Studies that are freely available on the Discipleship Training Schedule page. It is recommended to study the lessons in order, as listed on the schedule (click here to print out the schedule). This order correlates to a proven system that will become self-evident as the student progresses in understanding. The student should develop a disciplined approach to the material and work towards the goal of completion accordingly.

ONLINE QUIZZES:

A corresponding QUIZ is available for each Messianic Bible Study. The quizzes are designed as an additional resource the student can use as a practice tool and to gauge their mastery of the material. Feel free to take the quiz as often as desired. The quizzes are honor based and "open book." A passing grade is 80%, but we encourage you to press on to 100% accuracy. Print the quiz out with your best score and keep a copy on file. Successful completion of all fifty quizzes will allow you to continue on to the "Follow Me" stage of discipleship training.

COURSE COMPLETION TIME:

Estimated at 12 to 18 months. Since the audio lectures and corresponding quizzes are absolutely free, and available online 24/7/365... students are welcome to work through the material at a pace convenient to their personal time availability. However as previously stated, it is important to adhere to a disciplined approach and to ultimately finish the training.

OPTIONAL STUDY RESOURCES:

Major Bible Themes by Dr. Lewis Sperry Chafer, revised by Dr. John F. Walvoord
Once again, strictly optional but a nice resource to have in your library. Dr. Arnold Fruchtenbam was a student of Dr. Charles Ryrie (Professor of Theology, DTS), who in turn was a student of Dr. Lewis Sperry Chafer... the founder of Dallas Theological Seminary back in 1924. Do you detect a disciple-making process here? This book is also available very inexpensively from our Online Catalog.

Come and See on CD by Dr. Arnold Fruchtenbaum
This two CD set is provided for those: who may not have broadband internet access, or as a convenience to have the studies on CD. This is strictly optional since the same content is available online to download for free. The two CD set includes all 50 studies in PDF, plus all of the MP3 audio lectures. It is priced very affordably, just enough to cover our production and media costs.

SUGGESTED APPLICATION:

1) Recruit a small accountability group, identify a leader and meet on a regular basis to discuss the lessons. 2) Keep a notebook record of what you are learning. 3) Think and pray about what you have learned. 4) Last of all share what you are learning with someone you know, because this is what a committed disciple does.

TECHNICAL USAGE NOTES:

The Discipleship Training Schedule is organized into five columns:

CODE: This column contains links to the written PDF version of the study. Clicking each link downloads the study into your Adobe Acrobat Reader software. These written studies (manuscripts) were transcribed nearly verbatim from the original radio broadcasts by Dr. Fruchtenbaum. Print out the studies, and then use them to take notes on (there's a "built-in" notes column) as you listen along to Dr. Fruchtenbaum's audio lessons.

MESSIANIC BIBLE STUDY: This column contains the descriptive title of each study (lecture series), which are arranged in a specific, progressive, recommended study order.

MP3 PLAYER: This column contains links to an "iTunes-like" popup flash audio player. Click the link and Dr. Fruchtenbaum's audio lecture series will begin playing after a momentary load time. You must have broadband internet access for the audio to playback properly. We also recommend that you have either the latest version of Mozilla's Firefox browser (preferred) or Microsoft's Internet Explorer installed. The MP3 PLAYER uses Adobe's Flash software which is usually automatically installed when you update your browser. All of these tools are free to download and install.

Each lecture series is made up of separate (approximately 12 minute long) audio tracks. The smallest study is one track, and the largest is fifteen tracks. Most studies are five to ten tracks. The MP3 PLAYER allows you to play, pause, or change tracks (double-click listed tracks, Part 01, 02, etc. OR click the track change buttons). A slider bar allows you to move about within a track to play or replay any portion. The MP3 PLAYER is the easiest way to access and listen to your studies.

PODCAST: This column contains links that generate a "RSS FEED." For those of you who are "pod savvy" and desire to download the lecture series in MP3 format, just click the link! If your iTunes (or similar aggregator-catcher program) is setup properly, the resulting link page will allow you to "auto-subscribe" to the lecture. Or you may have to manually copy and paste the URL address displayed into your program to activate the "subscription" (download the tracks). The latest iTunes software can be downloaded for free from Apple's web site and they provide extensive technical information on its usage.

Even if you are not familiar with how to do the "pod stuff" - the resulting link page displays the individual tracks. Click them one-by-one, they will load into your browser associated player (usually Quick Time) and then use the "Save as" menu option to save (download) the MP3 tracks to your local system. Please note: Ariel Ministries is not staffed to do tech support so please... you are on your own here. It is pretty easy to get going, do a little "googling" or try asking a geeky friend for a little help if you have any trouble. We do appreciate your understanding about this.

QUIZ: This column contains links that activate an online interactive quiz. Click the link and take the quiz!

What Is Disciple Making?

As of this writing, I'm 61 years old. My ministry has been primarily a teaching ministry. I have had the joy of teaching the Bible from a Jewish perspective all over the world. In Psalm 90, Moses instructs Israel to number their days and I am doing so now that mine are passing. As of now, there are 3,227 days left before my seventieth birthday and only the Lord knows how many actual days I have left before seeing Him face to face. When they are completed, it has been my prayer since the beginning of Ariel Ministries that I will have been known as a faithful Bible teacher and that because of our ministry others will follow in "the Footsteps of the Messiah." But how will I know if I have effectively completed my God ordained life's work? And how will you know if you have run the race well?

In its purest form, disciple making is a one-on-one process. God frequently uses conferences, concerts, and other events to stimulate believers in Yeshua to become His followers. But becoming a disciple of Yeshua doesn't occur during a Christian mega event or a 12-week course of study. Making disciples only occurs when God uses deep relationships developed over time by people. Making disciples is a relational process. Disciples are not mass-produced on an assembly line. Each disciple is crafted one-by-one with the loving hands of our Creator. The process involves two elements: Bible knowledge and the application of that knowledge. On the one hand, Bible knowledge alone can make one proud; on the other, one cannot apply what he does not know. Both elements must come together in the life of a disciple: knowledge and application.

The best disciple maker in all of history was Yeshua. But even Yeshua submitted to the disciple making process. Prophetically speaking of the Messiah, Isaiah 50:4 tells us: "The Lord has given Me the tongue of them that are taught (tongues of disciples), that I may know how to sustain the weary one with a word. He awakens Me morning by morning, He awakens My ear to listen as a disciple." After thirty years of personal instruction from His Father, the God-Man began His ministry by limiting His intimate instructional time to twelve men. Within that privileged circle, only three joined Him on Mt. Hermon at His transfiguration.

Consider the example of Rabbi Sha'ul (the Apostle Paul) with his young talmid (disciple), Timothy. "The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also" (2 Timothy 2:2). Paul was Timothy's teacher, protector, and encourager. When Timothy was finally prepared after years of study and practice… his mentor sent him to duplicate the disciple making process in Ephesus.

Since 1977, Ariel Ministries has been committed to the disciple making process. From 1978 to 1981, I personally taught a small group of men how to read, study, interpret, and apply the Scriptures with an awareness of their Jewish origin. Many of these men have faithfully passed on what they worked hard to learn. In turn, their students have passed on to others what they first received sitting at the feet of their teachers. The concepts I taught my first disciples form the core of Ariel's Systematic Theology, and the Come and See Discipleship Training is an introduction to this course.

Ariel Ministries has a strategic plan to make disciples everywhere. Our first step is to identify those who have completed the Come and See Discipleship Training and whose lives have been changed by this systematic study of the Scriptures. Second, Ariel wants to partner with these "disciples in the making" to become obedient to Yeshua's command to make disciples themselves. Finally, Ariel Ministries wants to train these emerging disciple makers to reach out to others with Yeshua's call to become disciples themselves.

Our prayer is that God will use Ariel Ministries; in partnership with other biblically sound Messianic ministries, to re-awaken the Church to her historical Jewish origins. It is our belief that that the absence of this historical foundation has contributed to the Church teaching many false doctrines throughout the ages. Only by returning to sound doctrine will the Church be empowered by the Ruach HaKodesh (the Holy Spirit) to have a renewed and powerful witness in the world, "to the Jew first and also to the Greek" (Romans 1:16). I would like to invite you to join Ariel Ministries and others around the world in the disciple making process.
