It
is often said that God the Father never left the Son. If this is so, why
did Yeshua say, “My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?"
We
must remember that Messiah was the God-Man, meaning that He was only one
Person but with two distinct natures: divine and human. As for His divine
nature, there was never any separation between the Father and the Son,
i.e., there was always an unending, uninterrupted fellowship with God
the Father. However, as for His human nature, there was a three-hour separation
as Yeshua died spiritually on the cross; and, so, in His humanity, He
cried, “My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?” Yes, there was a separation
between God the Father and Messiah on the cross. But it must be emphasized
that this was a separation in His humanity, not in His deity.
